The Exercise Basket
Sometimes I feel like a fraud, giving others ideas for how to be healthy. Then I remember that I’m uniquely positioned to help because I know how it feels to a) be overweight and need to lose weight, b) love eating and c) not like exercise.
But, because I know exercise is a valuable component of being healthy, I’ve told myself that “not exercising is not an option”. To make exercise actually happen, I’ve set up a visual reminder for myself that also makes getting ready to exercise so much easier. It’s called “the exercise basket”. It sits beside my dresser and contains all the essentials for exercising- the socks, sneakers, jog bra, top and shorts. It serves as a daily reminder that “not exercising is not an option” and it prevents me from saying it’s too much trouble to round up the appropriate garments. Whenever I fold and put away a load of laundry, the exercise gear goes straight in the basket.
If you’re like me and have trouble with attention (read: out of sight=out of existence), try the visible, exercise basket as a helpful tool toward fitness. You may also want to ask God to help you do the thing you don’t want to do, but, with the basket in sight, you’ll have less barriers to overcome when it’s time to break a sweat.
“Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.”
